It has been revealed the Berejiklian Government is pushing to begin major demolition of Allianz Stadium as soon as this Thursday.
NSW Labor Leader, Michael Daley, has today called on the Berejiklian Government to halt the demolition, saying it would deny the people of NSW a say on the $2.2 billion Liberals and Nationals stadiums splurge.
“Under Labor schools and hospitals will come first. The March 23 election should be a referendum on the demolition of this stadium,” Mr Daley said.
As recently as last Friday, the NSW Liberals and Nationals failed to commit to a comprehensive public hospital in North West Sydney, because they are putting stadiums first.
Labor has vowed to build a $700 million North West public hospital, which will help relieve pressure on overstretched hospitals at Nepean, Blacktown and Mount Druitt.
The stadium’s Community Consultative Committee will meet for the first time this Thursday. This is clearly a formality for the government to rush through the demolition without truly listening to the local community.
“This is a disgraceful abuse of a proper planning process,” Mr Daley said.
On 8 January, NSW Labor called on the Berejiklian Government to halt the demolition because the requirement for the Community Consultative Committee to meet had been ignored.
